Winning Souls through the Word and Prayer

Brother W. E. Hawkins founded the ministry of Radio Revival in 1927.  His personal faith in the Lord and His Word permeated every facet of his life, and affected everyone whose life he touched.  He not only believed in God’s promise in John 3:16, but also practiced the application of the most important word in John 3:16.  “for God SO loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

If God SO loved the world that He would give His only begotten Son, what else would He not do for us or give to us?

In 1927 radio station KRLD in Dallas TX was 1 year old.  Brother Hawkins signed a contract for a two hour program with his signature and John 3:16.  When the station manager asked if that was his telephone number, he replied that it was the station manager’s guarantee that Brother Hawkins’ bill would be paid.  And that radio ministry continued on KRLD long after Brother Hawkins had gone home to be with the Lord.

His radio ministry became the focus for other types of outreach including a worldwide Bible distribution program, rural gospel preaching, Piney Grove Bible Camp in DeQueen, Ark. and evangelistic Bible exhibits in state and local fairs.  .  He started the fair ministry some time before WWII.  It was curtailed during the war years but started again after the war ended.

Radio Revival and these other ministries were later incorporated under the name Bible Fellowships, Inc.  Oliver W. Price succeeded Brother Hawkins as Director in 1963.  John E Mitchell, of the Mitchell Company in Dallas was Board Chairman at that time.  Upon his death Dr John F. Walvoord, of Dallas Theological Seminary became board chairman.

Clayton Camp joined Brother Price as Assistant Director and office manager on Sept. 1, 1965.  At that time we had evangelistic Bible exhibits at The State Fair of Texas™  in Dallas, The Fat Stock Show in Ft. Worth, and The Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City.  In 1966 we added the Fat Stock Show and Rodeo in Houston, TX.

In a few years the Lord expanded the state and local fair ministry into a national one with Jerry Rockwell as National Director.  Clayton Camp led the regional ministry in the Southwest U.S. in addition to his duties as Office Manager.

In the early part of 1979 Clayton became full-time Director of Bible Fellowship’s, Inc. Fair & Rodeo Evangelism ministry, which was expanded to include exhibits at expositions, trades days and flea markets.  The years 1994 to 1996 brought more transitions.  Under God’s direction and with the prayerful help of Oliver Price and the Bible Fellowship’s, Inc. board, the fair ministry became a separate organization.  It was incorporated June 10, 1996 as Fair & Rodeo Evangelism, Inc.  Ken Rogers and Bob Traphagen from Bible Fellowship’s, Inc. board became members of the Fair & Rodeo Evangelism’s, Inc. board of directors, as we sought to continue in the spirit of our parent organization.
